Example Of Essay On Treatment Of A Short Documentary
A documentary is one of the best ways through which issues of public concern are addressed. A documentary combines words and images to communicate the message in the shortest and most precise way. In my review, I desire to carry out a documentary on child abuse by nannies in the middle class. I found the issue of great importance considering the lifestyle of the middle class parents. Parents in the middle class are the busiest as they maneuver between careers and business to maintain their expensive lifestyles. It is for this reason that they rarely have time for their children, apart from the occasional luxurious holidays they give to them. Children are usually left under the care of nannies who are also subjected to abuse by their employers. Parents in the middle class usually want the best for their children yet they don’t have time to be with them. They will hence get them the best nannies they can and mount pressure on them to ensure that their children are comfortable. In some instances, the pressure could be transformed into verbal and physical abuse and hence making the working environment quite hectic for the nannies.
The documentary will be based on secret cameras placed in the house and compounds of the middle class people to reveal what happens to the children when their parents are away. It should be noted that the focus of the video is on children who are abused by their nannies, yet there will be a relationship drawn on how such treatment reflects how the nannies are treated by their employees. At the end of the documentary, viewers will realize that in most cases, children are abused by nannies as retaliation to the treatment they receive from their employers. Nannies usually feel that the children they are taking care of are responsible for the bad treatment they receive from their parents and hence using them to retaliate. The video will show the nannies scolding at the children, forcing them to eat food, locking them up in rooms so that they give them time to do other household chores and even leaving them unattended when they are crying. The recordings were done for an average period of six months for children under the age of five years. The recordings of how the parents treated their nannies after work were also considered in the documentary.
Included in the documentary are also interviews of the parents, nannies and children. Prior to airing the documentary, the nannies, parents and children who were old enough to understand the recordings were made to record them and give their views on what they saw. The aim of the video is to make parents understand the kind of treatment their children go through when they are away. This is meant to make them create time for their children so that they understand their psychological needs. In most cases, the issues that children go through go unnoticed and unreported because their parents are not there to give them support. The documentary is also aimed at understanding why nannies abuse the children and if their employers’ treatment could be a contributing factor. At the end of the documentary, I desire that employers learn to appreciate the work being done by the nannies to take care of the children by handling them well. Parents will also realize the importance of creating time in their busy schedules to be there for their children.
