Example Of Essay On What Are The Two Most Important Reasons For Why Technology Is Not Adopted? What Can Be Done About Them?
DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT
Discussion Assignment
The two major reasons, why technologies are not being adopted, are high cost of new technologies, and overutilization of new technology yet the old technology offers best alternative. High cost can be dealt either through government support (incentives and grants) or liaising with insurance companies to help the hospital meet the cost (Makam et. al, 2014).
What are the ways these two issues can be resolved? Explain
High cost of technology is a big issue in healthcare industry, the best possible way to deal with a high cost is to look for alternative technologies that are efficient and cheaper. Additionally, government can aid hospitals through grants; insurance companies too can help hospital obtain such technologies. Overutilization of technology can be resolved through research and identification of the best technology to be used hence not having more technologies offering same service (Domkowski, 2012).
What technology does your facility use?
Our health facility does use electronic health record or rather EHRs; the technology has enabled the facility to enhance clinical care resulting in better healthcare services to patients.
How has it improved patient care or outcomes?
EHRs has improved efficacy in managing patients in our health facility, after its adoption better coordination at work, happy, satisfied patients and improved health care. Are but the results of EHRs, patient's privacy and security are guaranteed, and that is why implementation of EHRs has been beneficial.
What can be done to make it more useful or to further improve patient care or outcomes?
Patient care outcome while using EHRs can be enhanced through team based-based healthcare, improved coordination, reducing cognitive workload, configurability and implementing feedback mechanism. The above-mentioned strategies will enable hospital stakeholders to improve efficacy while dealing with EHRs. Electronic health records have not only helped patients, but the entire health fraternity in dealing with health information issues (Lown& Rodriguez, 2012). Thus, making improvement will be of great importance to all the concerned parties.
