The personalities selected for this assignment were extroversion and introversion. Both of these personality characteristics have always been intriguing to me. Personally, I was classified as an extrovert but I’ve always been drawn to people that were more introverted. I respected them academically and also in work environments. I’m not a patient person and admire people that do have patience. It is a quality I continuously work on to master so these two personality characteristics held the most appeal for me.
I performed a brief Google search on the subject and discovered an article in The Washington Post from January of 2013, entitled “Why extroverts fail, introverts founder and you probably succeed.” (Pink, 2013). This piece discussed a research project conducted by a professor from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Management on whether being an extrovert increased your ability as a salesperson. The professor, Adam Grant, discovered it did not make much difference if you were on each end of the scale. Actually, Grant deduced ambiverts, the people who were in the middle of the scale, actually performed better as sales people than extroverts or introverts. Ambiverts also constitute the majority of society, as introverts and extroverts are much more extreme (Pink, 2013).
I did not find the results of this study all that shocking. Simply put, a person with a level head that knows when to assert themselves or when to remain in the background, not only enjoys the most success in a sales environment, but quite possible in nearly aspect of the professional world. To me, that just makes sense. Hence, the reason I try so hard to exercise patience and not to speak before I have fully analyzed what I intend to discuss. It appears ambiversion is a

personality characteristic which aids a person for success much more so than extroversion or introversion.
