Human trafficking refers to the illegal transfer or movement of people either willingly or forcefully to a certain destination (Human Rights First., web). Normally, people involved in human trafficking do it for trade purposes and, they use their subjects to do forced labor, or engage in commercial sexual activities. On a personal level, I believe human trafficking is a bad act and infringes on the rights of those trafficked. It is a serious criminal offense and, perpetrators of this act should receive heavy fines and jail terms. On the other hand, people should be enlightened on their human rights and, hence minimize cases of people trafficked to other areas without their consent.
Since the slavery era, United States has taken strong stands on the issue of human trafficking. The United States has developed several laws that seek to abolish human trafficking. The government has instituted strict laws that punish perpetrators of this heinous act. Besides that, United States politicians have for many instances used human trafficking issue as a political campaign tool. Politicians have promised the electorates of several reforms in the laws concerning human trafficking. Apart from politics, United States communities and, culture have put up a spirited campaign against human trafficking.
As stated earlier, human trafficking affects its the victims severely. First, human trafficking victims perform certain acts that put their lives in danger. For instance, some get involved in prostitution, and this exposes them to the risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases (Human Rights First., web). Secondly, some victims are forced to do hard labor that affects their health. Finally, the whole trafficking experience traumatizes the victims. It lowers their self-esteem and hence affecting their mental wellbeing. In order to address this menace, government authorities need to develop plans of disrupting the traffic networks and institute severe punishments for people caught in this illegal business.
