Today more and more people are concerned with making ecology better and preserving it from further worsening by the people’s actions. It is a good idea to support ecology-friendly incentives and make choices that support and save our planet. One of such spheres that attract attention of an increasing number of people is sustainable construction and usage of green power. This paper will provide a brief overview of these new technologies and particularities of their usage.
According to Hyysalo, Juntunen and Freeman (2013), the new millennium has witnessed an increasing interest in citizens as energy end‐users. Building of sustainable houses envisages the use of such materials that do not harm the ecology. For those people who want to minimize their negative impact on the environment and save finance, using sustainable technologies is a perfect option.
Still, when choosing sustainable technology, it is necessary to understand that it means more than just installing solar panels on the roof. It is a multi-faceted notion, which as a result helps to reach harmony with the environment that surrounds it. For example, it can be a Waste House, such as was built in the University of Brighton, which is made of construction and household waste. In the future building similar homes can become a real solution of several ecological problems at once.
Using the green power is also necessary today for creating sustainable households. The term green power means renewable energy, which unites five main types – biomass, hydro, solar, geothermal, and wind. In the United States, electricity consumers hear and believe that they can "buy" electricity from renewable energy projects through participation in voluntary green power markets (Gillenwater, Lu and Fischlein, 2014). However, it is necessary to make similar decisions in different spheres, not just buying goods with some green labels.
