Example Of Obesity Is Caused By The Food Industry Giants: An Argumentative Essay Argumentative Essay
Obesity remains one of the major health concerns in America because of the food industry’s inability to produce healthy food as well as the poor selections of buyers when it comes to food. The giants of the food industry asserts that they are providing every type of food that are demanded by the American citizens and it is the choice of the buyers to eat food that is high in terms of calories leading into obesity. On the other hand, it is argued that the poor selection of food is merely because of the inability of the giants of food industry to label the nutritional facts on the label.
The food industry has been constantly made a point of argument and debate because there has been little done so far to actually let buyers know about the ingredients that are used. There are combinations of ingredients that automatically become majorly high in calorie count. In particular, these fast food companies do not take care of the measurements and the calorie count. There are many items that are served in the children menu that are high in calorie count. There are deflecting number of calories that are actually shown on the websites or the labels then the actual number marked by the food associations. The following table shows the number of calories that the children menu includes by different fast food chains in America. For a child, every meal is seemingly high in terms of the calorie. At the same time, it indicates that the parents are needed to make respective decisions to make sure that the meals are not given to the children until they are thoroughly counted.
It is generally observed that many food item producers or the fast food industry has tried to forge the exact details on their websites. For instance, it is easier to observe in most of the websites of the fast food chains that they have calorie count mentioned in front of the deals they offer. However, the calorie count is added for one item with which the buyers can easily add a number of add-ons such as sauces, cheese, meat etc. Herein, it is easier to notice that the calories count increases without warning marked on the add-ons that will increase the overall calorie count of the food.
According to the author named Zinczenko (2002), food industry or the giants of the fast food industry have been insisting on the selection of the food by the buyers. Every attempt that is taken in order to file a lawsuit case is completely justified by the assertion that it is the buyer who should make sure that the consumption suits the body. In reply, the author Zinczenko asserted in his research paper that such a defensive claim by fast food industry is relative to the claim that has been put forward as a result of label with nutritional facts.
Through the above analysis, it can be well-stated that the nutritional values should be made evident on the label for all the customers. The advertisements that are broadcasted by different fast food industry are needed to include the calorie count on label as well because it will allow the buyers to make right decisions for a healthy lifestyle instead of becoming obese.
