Example Of Popular Culture Essay
Ever since the inception of the African Americans from their home through forceful abduction and being sold into slavery by the Europeans, the White Supremacy battle has reigned and has been reinforced in the mainstream media as well as in films. The negative stereotypes towards the Blacks have reinforced the White supremacy either willfully or inadvertently. As fact, people tend to belief what they see in the televisions as the real replication of the life in the society.
The White dominated police officers more than often are seen in the media brutally handling the Blacks. Such reinforces the negative stereotype that the blacks are hardcore criminals who are completely uncivilized, would refuse to honor mistakes, as well as refuse arrest that would force the police officers to use excessive force. Whereas in some isolated cases this could be true, the reinforcement on the same in the part of the African America is beyond the norm. The same case does not happened for Hispanics, Asian, and the Indians living in America. It is worth noting that these differences can be traced back in independence whereby the Blacks, having been slaves had to fight for freedom unlike the other minorities. Due to their revolt, the Whites held that the Blacks are irresponsible, foolish, stupid, lazy, and hence would need to be handled with a lot of force even when the situation is not threating to necessitate such use of force. With such treatment the Blacks feel oppressed and often put up a fight that would lead to the police using force. Nevertheless, with all factors considered, the Blacks are portrayed negatively in the media, and hence the White supremacy is reinforced towards the Blacks as opposed to the rest of the minorities. Rarely would even the cases of the Whites and the rest of the minorities facing the same situations would be treated the same way as that of the Blacks.
