Q: While considering all of the readings in this section, how does the concept of rape become complex? Consider how rape is defined, the structural factors involved, and how responses to rape are gendered.
The concept of rape becomes more complex as many issues around sex arise. Two to three decades ago, sexual assault mostly affected women though there were few cases on male sexual assault. Evolution of homosexuality and fighting for gay right emerged has led to complexion of sexual assault. Years ago, sexual assault involved the penetration of a man’s penis into a female’s vagina; today it is not the case, rape consists of attempted rape, forced oral and anal sex against the victim. Law and feminism has also contributed to its complexity, it has made sexual assault to involve indecent touching and attempted rape to be included in the concept.
Rape is the penetration of a ma’s penis in a female’s vagina or in another’s man’s anus or mouth. Rape involves forced penetration of the penis into the victim’s organs. It also involves a woman forcefully making a man to have sex with her. It must be by use of force and the victim must show resistance from such force. Showing resistance is evidence of sex without conceit.
In many rape cases, the female victims outnumber the male victims. Male victims do not report the incidents due to fear of victimization disbelieved by those they report to. The male victims who report mostly are the gays and the heterosexual victims do not report the cases. Female victims are courageous to report the cases to medical facilities for medication than the male counterparts. The male victims have a fear of negative reaction from those who they will report to and thus keep it to themselves. In conclusion more help and support is needed on the victims and they should be encouraged to report the incidents.
