Introduction

Galaxies are presented in the universe and are the sprawling systems in the space. The galaxies are significantly composed of the unlimited number of the stars, gas and dust. However, the number of galaxies cannot be determined by the humans from the earth. Consequently, the discovered number of galaxies is above 100 million which Aare all similar in some aspects. The galaxies can be categorized on the basis of the presence of a difference in the components of the galaxies. Moreover, categorization of the galaxies can be done through the shape of the galaxy which includes: spiral galaxy, elliptical galaxy, and galactic merger.
The smallest number of stars can also form the galaxy. Therefore, the number of components cannot determine the number of galaxies in the universe. Usually, the dark halos are analysed in the universe since, the dwarf galaxies and other galaxies possess these halos while the clusters of only stars do not contain the dark halos.
Consequently, the count of the galaxies can be achieved. The theoretical estimated count of the galaxies and the dark matter in the halos which is able to form stars in the galaxy are determined. Eventually, this analysis provides the estimation of about number of galaxies to be 225 billion or more than this number presently in the universe (Temming, 2014).

Milky Way Galaxy

Among the 225 billion galaxies, the galaxy in which the earth is present, and the galaxy which is the residence of life so far is the Milky Way galaxy. The ancient name for this galaxy was the Celestial River (Upton, 2013). Milky Way galaxy emerges as the band of light and according to Galileo; this band is visible due to the concentration of the stars present at the edge of the galaxy.
Milky Way galaxy is the spiral galaxy which is spread over 100,000 of light years. The spirals are visible as the central bulge if an individual views the galaxy from the top. The scene forms the top of the galaxy will give a view of the four spirals. Spiral galaxies are abundantly found in the universe. Therefore, they constitute the two third of the discovered universe. Milky Way galaxy is actually a barred spiral. Barred spiral is different because it possesses a bar at the centre of the galaxy along with two main arms.
On the other hand, the Milky Way galaxy consists of two minor arms and small two spurs. The Spur is the region which contains the sun and the solar system. Consequently, the spur in which we are living is called as Orion Arm. The two major arms called as Sagittarius and Perseus surround our Orion's arm.
Our galaxy seems to be stationary, but it’s not. Milky Way galaxy is continuously rotating the arms. As the arms are moving, so do the sun and the solar system in the spur are rotating. Eh, speed estimated which is required for the solar system to travel in the rotation is 515,000 miles per hour. On the contrary, 230 million years are consumed when the solar system completes rotating the entire Milky Way galaxy.
The four spirals which are curled surrounding the galaxy contain the gas and the dust. The arms of the galaxy are the place where new stars are constructed. The arms are present in the disk of the galaxy. The thickness of the disk is measured to be 1000 light years. The centre of the galaxy is determined at the heart of the galaxy which is termed as the galactic bulge. The heart of the galaxy is completely composed of the gas. The reason why we cannot see the galaxy is the bulge. This bulge covers the view and does not let us view the galaxy. Dust and gas are the constituents of this bulge which actually makes it difficult to view the galaxy.
Black hole which is the topic of consideration for the researchers, scientists and other people is located at the very centre of the galaxy. A Black hole cannot be viewed directly with the eyes. The components which are the major part of the Milky Way galaxy are the bulge and arms. However, other components are also present in the galaxy which is the spherical halo. The hot gas in the spherical halo surrounds the galaxy. Other parts of the galaxy are the stars, old stars and the globular clusters.
The spherical halo is spreaded over the hundreds of thousands of the light years, but the halo possesses the stars which together constitute the two percent of the total stars of the disk of the galaxy. In the galaxy, when viewed, the dust, stars, and gas are mostly visible. On the contrary, some other components also exist in the galaxy which is not visible. These components include the dark matter. The dark matter and the black hole are not detected by the scientists directly. However, the objects surrounding this hole and the dark matter make the detection and determination of the components easier for the scientists. The dark matter is the huge part of the galaxy so much so that the ninety percent of the galaxy mass is the dark matter(Redd, 2013).
In addition to this, our galaxy contains the magnetic field. The magnetic field is the characteristic of the disk. Although the field is not powerful as the magnetic field is found in the earth. But it contains the power to the extent that it can attract the charged particles moving through the Milky Way galaxy. The charges particles in the cosmic rays are bent by this field, and so they change their direction. This becomes a consequence because the galaxy gets accumulated with these cosmic rays(Redd, 2013).

Formation of the Milky Way Galaxy

Milky Way galaxy is present in the universe very long ago. The estimated age of our galaxy is 13.6 billion years. It is said in the theory that the Milky Way galaxy did not exist from the beginning of the universe. The event of the big bang is actually responsible for the formation of the Milky Way galaxy. Later, when big bang event passed, the universe was cooled down, and the gas was spreaded throughout the universe. The irregularities present in the gas make it possible for the formation of the coalesces into clumps which were much larger. These clumps became hot in the universe and went through the nuclear fission reactions.
Ultimately, the stars were formed. These stars were affectionate towards one another due to the force of the gravity. Eventually, the stars came closer to one another. This group of stars are called as the globular clusters, and some of the clusters are still present in the Milky Way galaxy. The stars formed the group and the galaxy was formed gradually.
Our galaxy produces seven stars each year and is sometimes called as the cannibal. The name of the cannibal is given to our galaxy due to the fact that it swallowed many dwarf galaxies during its own formation. Within our galaxy, there are both older and young stars. The young stars are present in the disk of the galaxy and the older stars are present in the galactic halo. The older stars are arranged in the spherical fashion in the galactic halo (Wethington, 2009).

Collision of the Galaxy

Since, the galaxies in the universe are not only rotating within itself but is also moving through the universe, therefore, these galaxies are prone to get collide with each other. The scientists estimated that our Milky Way galaxy can collide in the coming billion years with the Andromeda Galaxy. With the speed of 70 miles per hour, the two galaxies are coming closer towards each other. The collision of these two galaxies will liberate the influx which will cause the formation of the new stars. On the other hand, the residence of the earth does not need to worry about this collision because by the time of their collision, the sun will be converted to the red giant. Subsequently, the sun will have made the life impossible on the earth before the collision of the two galaxies (Bull, 2012).

Quick Facts of the Galaxy

The Milky Way galaxy, in which we survive, comprises of the 200 billion stars. Furthermore, the gas and dust are present in that amount which are enough to construct more stars for the galaxy. The solar system in which the earth exists is present nearly at the distance of the 30,000 light years from the centre or the galactic centre of the Milky Way galaxy.
The solar system is located about 20 light years if the plane of the galaxy is considered. The sun is the star of the galaxy which is 4.5 billion years old. On the contrary, half stars present in the galaxy are even older than the sun so they are present prior to the formation of the sun and the solar system.
The Milky Way galaxy contains red dwarfs and the cool star which are smaller than the sun. These stars were considered a threat to the planets which contain life in it. In the late 1920s, it was considered by the scientists that all of the stars present in the universe are found in the Milky Way galaxy only.
Conversely, Cepheid variable star was discovered which ruled out this idea. The discovery was made by Edwin Hubble and he took the measurement of eth distance around the galaxy and then it was realized that the groups which were thought to be nebula are actually distinct galaxies (Redd, 2013).

Conclusion

The Milky Way galaxy is one of the many galaxies. The Milky Way galaxy is spreaded over the large space, and so it contains uncountable characteristics. However, some of the eth properties are still unknown and yet to be found out. Scientists and astronomers indulged in this objective in order to gather and find more information regarding our galaxy. Subsequently, we are acknowledging the most amazing facts of our Milky Way galaxy.
