Example Of Research Paper On Consumer Product Report: Prilosec And Mirapex
Introduction
Two drugs, the Prilosec and Mirapex, are both made up of off-white compound which makes it more effective drug to cure simple to complex body problems. Prilosec which is also known as Losec, Antra, Omeprazon, Audazol and Mopral, is used primarily in gastro intestinal problems like stomach ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Prilosec is a drug which inhibits hydrogen (+) and potassium (+) exchanging ATPase that is found is human’s gastric parietal cells. Prilosec is made up of omeprazole, a 4 – methoxy – 3,5 – dimethylpyridl, 5 – methoxybenzimidazole derivative of timoprazole. Its molecular formula is C17H19N3O3S with molecular weight of 345.41606 grams per mole. The other drug, the Mirapex is also known as Pramipexole Dihydrochloride, is an extended release tablet containing a nonergoline dopamine agonist—the pramipexole. Pramipexole is also termed as Mirapex, Mirapexin and Sifrol which is known to cure Parkinson’s disease as well as the restless legs syndrome or RLS. The chemical name of Mirapex is (S) – 2 – amino – 4,5,6,7 – tetrahydro – 6 (propylamino) benzothiazole dihydrochloride monohydrate with empirical formula of C10H17N3S . 2HCl . H2O. The molecular weight of Mirapex is said to be 302.26 grams per mole.
Prilosec
Some of the compound contents of Prilosec are omeprazole, citric acid, lactose, disodium hydrogen phosphate and iron (III) oxide. The first three are the organic compounds found in the drug and the disodium hydrogen phosphate and iron (III) oxide are the inorganic compounds present (AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP, n.d.).
The IUPAC name of omeprazole is 6 – methoxy – 2 [ ( 4 – methoxy - 3, 5 – dimethylpyridin – 2 – yl ) methanesulfinyl ] - 1H - 1,3 - benzodiazole. Its metabolism is hepatic (CYP2C19, CYP3A4) with half-life ranging from one to one and a half hours. Its chemical formula is C17H19N3O3S and has molecular mass of 345.5 grams per mole. Citric acid, on the other hand is one of the weakest organic compound with C H O as its formula. This C6H8O7 has a molar mass of 192.124 grams per mole with its melting point of 153 degree Celsius. Its IUPAC name is 2 – hydroxypropane - 1,2,3 - tricarboxylic acid and citric acid is also known as 3-carboxy-3-hydroxypentanedioic acid and 2 – hydroxyl - 1,2,3 - propanetricarboxylic acid. Citric acid is crystalline white solid in appearance and it is odorless. Lactose is also another organic compound derived from galactose and glucose and is usually found in milk. Its chemical formula is C12H22O11 with IUPAC name of β – D – galactopyranosyl - ( 14 ) – D - glucose. Its molar mass is 342.3 grams per mole and it is classified as FODMAP. Lactose is soluble in both water and ethanol.
The disodium hydrogen phosphate and iron (III) oxide are some of the inorganic compounds found in Prilosec drug. Disodium hydrogen phosphate is one of the few sodium phosphates and is also known in the form of anhydrous. Its IUPAC name is Sodium hydrogen phosphate with molar mass of 141.96 grams per mole. It melts on 250 degree Celsius and is soluble in water. On the other hand, the iron (III) oxide has its chemical formula FeO with wustite as its mineral form. Its IUPAC name is Iron (III) oxide and its molar mass is 71.844 grams per mole. Its density is 5.74 grams per cubic centimeter and it boils on 3,414 degree Celsius. Iron (III) oxide is black colored powder in appearance.
Mirapex
The other drug under study is the Mirapex. It is also termed as pramipexole dihydrochloride in the world of chemistry. Mirapex contains pramipexol which is a nonergot dopamine agonist as stated above. Some of its chemical contents are mannitol, povidone, magnesium stearate and pramipexole. Mannitol and povidone are organic compounds found in Mirapex and magnesium stearate and pramipexol are the inorganic compounds (Wilson-Lee, n.d.).
D-Mannitol is an organic compound with systematic IUPAC name (2R, 3R, 4R, 5R) - Hexan - 1,2,3,4,5,6 - hexol. Mannitol is also known as Osmitrol with chemical formula of C6H14O6. Its molar mass is 182.172 grams per mole with density of 1.52 grams per cubic centimeters. D-Mannitol is white crystalline solid in appearance and can also be found in Prilosec. Povidone-Iodine is also another organic compound found in Mirapex with systematic IUPAC name 2 - Pyrroiodine, 1 – ethenyl -, homopolymer, compound with iodine. Its chemical formula is (C6H9NO)n xl with variable molecular mass. Povidone-iodine is known also as the compound used in Wokadine, Pyodin and Betadine—some of the famous brand name in the field of pharmaceutics. Povidone-iodine is a stable chemical which is a complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone and iodine.
On the other hand, Magnesium stearate and pramipexole are the inorganic compounds found in the said drug. Magnesium stearate has its IUPAC name of Magnesium Octadecanoate with its chemical formula of Mg (C18H35O2)2. Its molar mass accounts to 591.27 grams per mole with density of 1.026 grams per cubic centimeters. Magnesium stearate is a light white powder in appearance and is odorless. Lastly, pramipexole is an inorganic compound that is evident in the Mirapex drug. Pramipexole is also known as Mirapex, Mirapexin and Sifrol. Its systematic IUPAC name is (S) – N6 – propyl – 4, 5, 6, 7 – tetrahydro – 1,3 – benzothiazole – 2,6 – diamine. Pramipexols’s half-life is on the range of eight to twelve hours with bioavailability of less than 90%. Regarding its chemical data, pramipexole’s chemical formula is C10H17N3S and its molecular mass is computed to be 211.324 grams per mole. Also, pramipexole dihydrochloride is a white to off-white powder substance that melts in the range of 296 degree Celsius to 301 degrees with decomposition intervention. This inorganic compound is soluble in water, methanol and ethanol and is insoluble in dichloromethane.
Conclusion
Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to treat adults with duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer, as well as adults and children with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis. Other type of Prilosec is the one made up of omeprazole magnesium. Prilosec is not seen to be effective and safe to pediatric patients with age less than one year old. The generic name of Prilosec, that is omeprazole or omeprazole magnesium, is the main chemical compound content of the said drug. Both the omeprazole and the omeprazole magnesium are proven to be effective to cure and treat gastrointestinal problems and the like.
On the other hand, Mirapex ER tablet is a dopamine D2 receptor agonist used to treat Parkinson’s disease and Restless Leg Syndrome. Both drugs are of white or off white crystalline powder. Mirapex is not food dependent drug and so any patient can take it with or without eating. It is recommended to use it only once a day, in contrast to what other doctors prescribe. The generic name of Mirapex is pramipexole dihydrochloride. Pramipexole Dihydrochloride is the main ingredient of Mirapex that is seen to have the potential to help out patients with Parkinson’s disease and Restless Leg Syndrome.
