Example Of Research Paper On The Australian Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islanders Religion
There are two main indigenous Australian religious groups namely the Aborigines and the Torres Strait Islanders. The two forms the main religions in this region, which have then divided into many other religions. The two religious groups shares common cultural traits, ceremonial dealings, and customary system concerning the land tenure system (Hughes et al, p 212). The basis of life, history and culture of the indigenous Australia is derived from these two main religious groups. These two main religious groups arrived at their present place about 40,000 years ago, where they have settled and some have moved to other places of the country.. During this time, Asia and Australia were still interconnected by a land bridge. When the land mass separated, the populations had different adaptations to various climatic and environmental conditions of the continent.
The Aborigines religious groups were mainly nomadic, who used to move throughout the land in cycles. Most of the time, this group met and shared stories with the other clans. On the other hand, the Torres Strait Islanders were mainly seafaring and trading individuals. They were based on the islands that are found to the North Queensland and the Papua New Guinea (Hughes et al, p 221). This group’s spirituality and customs showed their dependence on the sea. Despite the fact that some of the cultural practices varied in accordance with region, they too shared a view that the land and the other natural phenomena had a living soul (Jupp, p 134). The two groups of religions in Austria forms the basis of the of the presence religions within the region.
The presence religion varies a little bit with the past religion. This is because of cultural diversity and the coming up of new religions. This has contributed greatly the variation in the religions at the present times. Furthermore, there are several cultural diversities that are presently witnessed. This varies greatly with the past cultural practices also due to people’s diversity and migration to different places.
