1. A. The largest county that has emerged after the fall of the former Soviet Union is Russia. It spreads across nine time zones making it a dominant country in this region and one of the most important world powers. The history of Russia is along and it begins with its first state in the 9th century AD. In its long history, Russian people endured a lot of wars and revolutions.
1. B. It is recorded that the first people who occupied the territory of today's Ukraine 300 centuries ago.
1. C. The power of the Russian tsars changed during the long history of Russia as a kingdom. However, the things that the tsars had in common include the strong dominance over the territory, they were the war commanders in charge, and their reign was absolute.
2. A. The communism is Russia was the dominant ideology since its introduction in 1917. The person who brought communism in Russia though the Revolution was Vladimir Lenin. He advocated the ideas of Karl Marx and was at the head of Communist Party.
2. B. The group of people who lead the country after the first revolution in 1917 was called Bolshevik. They advocated a strong centralized communist state.
2. C. The name of the newly establish communist state was Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.
2. D. Lenin and Stalin were responsible more many deaths in the former Russia. Around Stalin was developed a cult of personality. Everyone who did not obey Stalin and his politics were convicted to death or they disappeared without any trace. Additionally, Stalin used to send politics prisoner to Siberia, a northern province, where the coldness and eternal snow led its inhabitants to death. The central intelligence service and the secret service was everywhere and people feared from everyone, because one word or an ambiguous meaning could lead them to death.
5. A. When the Cold War is mentioned, it mainly refers to political tensions between the Western Block and the Eastern Block. The countries that belonged to the Western Block included the USA, the member countries of NATO and others, whereas the Eastern Block included the Russia as the leading country and members of the Warsaw Pact. As the Europe was divided after the WW II between Russia and Western Block, the political tensions aroused when they started political and economical struggle in the Latin America. The consequences of the Cold War are still felt in Cuba which is the country that has been under embargo for many years.
B. In 1991, Soviet Union ceased to exist as such. When Mikhail Gorbachev was overrun by Boris Yeltsin, all the previous arrangements that the Bush administration had with Gorbachev were annulled. Even though the Bush administration did not agree with this political decision (to place Yeltsin as the president) they established some principles that the Russia had to follow in order to gain support from the USA.
C. The current relationship between Russia and the US are on the verge of diplomatic discrepancies. On the one hand, Russia and Vladimir Putin have a strong dominance in China and on the other the US have dominance in Europe. Bearing on mind that Russia is protecting Assad, the president of Syria, and the civil war is Syria is still going on. Russia and the USA do not see eye to eyes with the problems in Syria, Ukraine and the Middle East.
D. The current president of Russia is Vladimir Putin. The Prime Minister is Dmitry Medvedev.
7. A. Mikhail Gorbachev was the last president of Soviet Union. He was considered to be great reformer who tried to slowly transform Soviet Union and introduce openness into the Russian international politics. He had a good relationship with the US administration and contributed to the end of Cold War.
B. Even though Great Britain and the US did not approve the Communist Party that was ruing in the Soviet Union, their relationship with Soviet Union during the WW II was good. They realized that without the joined forces they cannot defeat Hitler and its allies. On the other hand, Stalin broke its ally with Japan and promised the participation in the United Nations. Unfortunately, after the war, the differences again emerged that lead to the Cold War.

China

1. A. China is located on the Asian continent.
B. The current size of Chinese population is 1,304.2 million which 25% of the world population.
C. The recorded history of China is over 4000 years old.
D. The political system is China is communism with the leading Communist Party.
2. A. China becomes a communist country in 1949, after the bloody civil war.
B. Taiwan is an island that has proclaimed its independency. However, the government of the Peoples’ Republic of China does not recognize Taiwan’s independency and due to that it is not recognized in the international initiations.
C. The communist system did a lot of benefits for the Chinese population by raising the life expectancy, providing free medical insurance and education. As far as women are concerned, the communist system enabled women to work and educate themselves.
