Example Of Service Assignment Essay
Question 1: 1 Peter 4:10, Isaiah 1:16-17
I chose these two quotes because they represent, to me, the importance of doing good works to my personal journey. It is not enough to think of myself when I am trying to be a good person, I have to follow Jesus’ example as much as I can. Of course, He was the Son of God and was perfect; I am not perfect, but I am trying to be the best person I can be. Serving those less fortunate than myself is an important part of my spiritual journey. Jesus often walked among those that society considered to be unclean, and He healed them instead of serving only Himself. I think this is one of the most important lessons that He taught us. Service is important to God, and these passages tell us that we cannot be clean if we do not do good works.
Question 2. “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” (Albert Einstein), “Anytime you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, you are wasting your time on earth.” (Roberto Clemente), “We are all woven together in the great web of humanity, and whatever we can do to benefit and uplift others will reflect in blessing upon ourselves.” (Ellen G. White).
The most important thing that all of these quotes have in common is the idea that service to one’s fellow man is what makes life worthwhile. There is no doubt that to be selfish can lead to some short-term gain, but what gives our lives meaning as a whole is what we do for others, not what we do for ourselves. It can be difficult to act selflessly, and choosing service over fun is something that I struggle with personally. However, when we choose to serve others, we are making the world and our presence in it more meaningful in the long run. This is what I try to remember even when I am feeling selfish.
Question 3:
a) “To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity.” (Douglas Adams)
I chose this quote because to me, it demonstrates that it is not necessarily enough to go through the action of serving others: we also have to mean it when we serve them. God knows what is in our hearts, and He knows when we are not serving Him and our fellow man properly.
b) “In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (Acts 20:35).
This is a lesson all children must learn, but we must learn to take pride and be happy with the feelings that we get from serving others. God wants us to give to others to make the world a better place.
c) “A generous heart, kind speech, and a life of service and compassion are the things which renew humanity.” (Buddha).
Buddha’s compassion is always evident in his language, and it is clear that understanding compassion and service to others can make humanity grow into a better, happier group. If we are cruel to each other, we will undoubtedly destroy ourselves.
Question 4
This is a very important parable on service, because it teaches us that the Son of God is in each and every one of us. He sees us all as His children, and when we act poorly towards our fellow man, we are acting poorly towards Him. The treatment of our fellow man is enough to earn us eternal damnation—once we understand this, we can act in a better manner towards the people around us. If we can see God in everyone, regardless of where they are from or who they are, we will be saved.
