Currently applying for a Master of Science in Banking and Financial Services Management, Boston University, I can distinguish myself as a hard learner, with well-developed organizational pledge. Due to my ongoing commitment to improve the necessary skills and due to the continuous development of my professional skills and abilities, I look ahead to achieve an excellent professional growth in the field. I am strongly determined to pursue my Master’s degree to become an exceptional and committed professional.
Right now pursuing my education in the accounting field of hospitality related industry, I have acquired such outstanding qualities as conscientiousness and continuous learning. Learning and diligence are the core values that can lead to the foundation values in my life, and I believe that career path of banking and financial services management can accomplish such important values to me as steadiness and respect. From my self-appraisal perspective, I have a good perspective to carry through my wishes in the financial management. Also my current grade already matches the average grade in the hospitality industry but, nonetheless, I keep working on my proficient development. I much concerned with the separation of my specialized skills and abilities to assure that I can perform manifold functions. My core goal is to apply the personal strengths, such as reliability and organizational commitment, ability to act in response under pressure and a strong aspiration to gain knowledge of all innovative things. The outgoing individuality is my asset, which ensures that I take the maximal gain of offered opportunities to branch out my professional life while preparing myself to a lasting career in banking and financial services.
My internship at the Millennium Hilton Hotel in New York City covered full seven weeks. During this assignment at the hotel, I was oriented on the details of what a manager must attain, in terms of the right attitude, how to communicate with superiors and subordinates and, above all, how to stay determined in completing the set goals. I have learned to appreciate the importance of each business process, and its direct implication on the hotel operations. Moreover, I came to learn the hidden ins and outs of the business and integrate and relate my theoretical knowledge to the hotel operations. With this internship, I finally was able to familiarize myself with Accounting terminologies and its appliance in the Hotel’s financial activities relating to both internal and external customers of the hotel. My other goal was to gewt familiar with performing these functions on my own, following a pertinent guidance from my superiors. And most importantly, I acknowledged the fact that in this enclosed field, the numbers play a smaller role, compared to the whole idea of how they can be applied in successful operation of the hotel.
Being assigned to work on Rooms, I learned how to reconcile credit card revenues with processors to get the income to the banks. Right there, I gained knowledge of my personal strength that I never knew I had before since these daily tasks required my attention to detail. During my exposure on the payroll system, I spent time with the accounts payable specialist and got a general idea of the subtle processes related to payables. On my last week, I learned how everything was interrelated and how theory applies to practical activities.
In preparation, I arranged a professional marketing plan to outline my strategies and my core objectives. In this marketing plan, I included both the SWOT analysis to identify my strengths and weaknesses and PEST analysis to categorize external factors that affect the branch of hotel management. This internship at least lessened my inexperience of handling an upper level management position and made my wish to take on greater responsibilities even stronger. Working in this industry not only sketched my career path but also helped me grow personally. I recognized that more graduates find themselves in competition for jobs in this and other industries every year. Lastly, this internship gave me an edge over my graduate peers and I came out of it with the first-hand experience how to apply my theoretical knowledge in daily activities.
Additionally, I can obtain the required recommendations from my previous employers, from my educators, who are familiar with my current achievements and my long-term prospective. My genuine interest in Finance in all-purpose, and as a keen reader and scholar I immersed myself in readings on John Maynard Keynes “The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money”. Modern economics and finance is the field where I can see my full potential flourish, especially related to corporate operations, with analysis of financial statements and cash management.
