A short prehistory to the narrative namely the biography of Aldo Leopold already allows people to imagine the further course of events that will be further described. Nevertheless, from the first words it becomes clear that the touched upon problem is much deeper and undoubtedly complicated. From the very beginning the author mentions that only mountain is able to perceive objectively the howl of the wolf. Even if these words are not truly estimated at first, their sense can be completely understood after having read the whole story. The author depicts how killing of the wolf didn’t seem to be a great problem for the main character and this even didn’t suppress him morally. Moreover, the true understanding of what has happened reached his mind just when he noticed a “fierce green fire dying in the wolf’s eyes”.
Considering this, the leading idea is definitely not to show the death of the wolf itself but to bare the idea that even a slight change in the normal circulation greatly affects the environment. It is so, because after the death of the wolf the deer started to eat up all plants thus eliminating the whole vegetation on the mountain. It is important to understand that all creatures that exist on the planet play an inseparable role in the further maintaining of the life. That is why it goes about the life circle which should always be in harmony and balance in order to sustain life of all living things. On this basis there can be clearly seen the purpose of the story namely to show that everything has its special purpose on this planet and it is noly from the person’s point of view the wolf mentioned in the story is seemed to be nothing except a threat. But according to the author, the necessity of keeping the environment in balance that mean also existence of wolves and other creatures can be understood by mountains that perceive something that is rarely estimated by humans namely “a howl of the wolf” which can be also if to listen attentively an outburst of warnings and cry for help.
