Have a communication competence is very crucial in the business environment since it helps an individual make meaningful contact with clients and associates of the business. Additionally, it helps one in dealing with different aspects of communication be it horizontal or vertical within the business organization or with the outside world (Stuart et al., 2007). Therefore, to form a sound business venture, communication has to be intergraded in all the sphere of the business. One of the areas of communication a business individual need to have a sound knowledge is the Transactional Communication Model. This model depicts communication between two individuals where several elements may be involved to make the communication a success or failure. The elements involved in the Transactional Communication Model are explained below.
Sender (encoder), the sender on this case is the manager in an engineering firm. The manager is interested in making business contact with Fran Richardson. Therefore, he will compose a message to get the attention of the community leader. For instance he may greet and introduce himself to the community leader in order to start a conversation or pick from their earlier conversation.
Receiver (decoder) this is Mr. Fran Richardson, he is the receiver of the greetings and the introductions from the manager. Mr. Fran Richardson has to decode the statement from the manager to have a clear understanding of the message. Additionally, Mr. Fran Richardson has to understand other features of the message such as the tone, handshake, smile or the managers posture to derive a full meaning
Channel, this is the medium used in the communication (Stuart et al., 2007). In this case the medium used is face to face. This medium is affective in that the message as well as the feedback is delivered on time.
Message, these are the words utter by the manager to Mr. Fran Richardson. The message in this case can be greetings or the introduction from the manager.
Feedback. This is reply or response from Mr. Fran Richardson after the manager has introduced himself.
Noise, this is something which causes disruption or interferes with how the message is transmitted from manager to Mr. Fran Richardson or vice versa (Stuart et al., 2007). A good example for this case is a waiter pulling a chair for another customer at the restaurant. In the process of pulling the chair makes a noise which interferes with the communication between manager and Mr. Fran Richardson.
Context, this refers to the place and the time of communication (Stuart et al., 2007). In this scenario, the context of communication is having lunch at the local restaurant.
Simultaneous and Continuous, these are various actions in the communication between the manager and Mr. Fran Richardson (Stuart et al., 2007). These actions can be both conscious and unconscious actions which enhance the communication process. Some of these actions are nodding, smile, laughter, shifting or adjusting oneself on the chair, change of tone/accent or yawning.
