Introduction

Summary
Fifty shades of grey is an erotic romantic novel and uncover the intense relationship between college student Anastasia Steele and the young and successful business tycoon Christian Grey. The meeting between the two main characters is seen as fate as the story unfolds. Since Anastasia’s friend cum roommate is sick and unable to interview Mr Grey for a school project she sends Anastasia in her place. Upon her meeting with Christian Steele, Ana is drawn towards the young businessman, but also finds him intimidating at the same time. Anastasia eventually discovers that even though Christian Grey is good looking and charming, but he is different that other young men. As a consequent of several dates between the two characters Ana finds herself attracted towards the strange personality of Christian Grey. One night when Ana drunk dials Christian Grey he comes to her rescue and scolds Ana for her careless behaviour.
Once both the actors find themselves attracted to each other, Christian Grey warns Anastasia Steele about getting involved with him in a sexual relationship. Christian Grey is depicted as a strong and powerful man who keeps his emotions bottled up. Even though, he warns Anastasia about his wild behaviour he behaves in a soft and affectionate manner with her at certain points in the book. Anastasia is not the first woman in Grey’s life, but he is the first man in Ana’s life with whom she was willing to be sexually involved. As per Grey’s principles, she was asked to sign a document which played the role of an agreement. Once Ana saw the agreement she was hesitant at first, but at the same time she was curious as well. Ana wanted to know the reason because of which Christian was reluctant to share his true emotions and feelings. The lifestyle Christian Grey led was unfamiliar to Ana; however, her behaviour and willingness to enjoy the perks reflect her interest in enjoying that level of lifestyle as well.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the book provides a prime example of male chauvinism. Christian Grey wants to feel powerful in all areas of life. He was successful in his professional life and controlled his subordinates, and he wanted to overpower those in his personal life as well. Once a person becomes emotionally detached from the outer world, it takes them to the extremes. For instance; when Christian Grey found pleasure in hurting women it depicted that he wanted to cause pain and feel above others. The book gives a good insight into how a healthy social life can help keep an individual sane whereas, if we detach ourselves from social gatherings we may begin to feel superior or lonely. In cases similar to Christian Grey, he began to feel above others and accepted it as part of his normal routine.
