Muharrem is an ardent believer in Islam religion. The sheikh has posted him to be the new rent collector in the city. For a very long time, Muharrem has kept himself distanced for the temptations of this world. Being an introvert, he leads a solitude life. As a rent collector, it is hard for Muharrem to maintain his beliefs and virtues. The work of a rent collector involves demanding money from people and in case the person is broke, he is evicted forcefully. Muharrem cannot keep his purity of belief and virtues of simplicity. In addition, Islamic virtues are static. It has not changed for a very long time, and the leaders don’t intend to change it any time sooner. The Sheikh chooses him to be the new rent collector because of his virtues. Maybe he saw that Muharrem would not be corrupt like most rent collectors in the city. Muharrem simplicity was an additional factor in being given that post. The allegory of the lion associate with Muharrem is the new position Muharrem will be holding. He will be controlling most of the houses in the city, and so he is the king of the houses now. The economies run by banks involve people following certain procedures and being served with respect. On the other hand, the economy of the Brotherhood involves getting the money in any way possible. Forceful act is always apparent in these dealings. Despite the differences, there are similarities in that; both are responsible for circulating money and maintaining order among the people. At the end of the film, Muharrem is suffering and is disabled. This can be seen as a failure by Muharrem in keeping his beliefs of purity and the simplicity that he once had. The world poisoned him, and he is suffering, as a result. He could not keep the temptation away or concentrate on the work of the rent collector without compromising his beliefs. In the end, he failed and is now being taken care of by a woman.
