Fingerprint App On Mobile Phones Essays Example
Biometric data has been used in various fields for the purposes of identification. Biometrics can be described as a behavioral or a biological characteristic that is used in automated recognition (“Biometric Technology Introduction,” n.d). These aspects can also be used as process of recognizing an individual to a very high degree of precision. For example, biometric data can include the face, finger prints, among other aspects. The technology in this field has been increasing in the recent past as the need for security in the many fields has increased.
The emergence of mobile phones and the need for protection of ones data stored in the phone has led to one major invention in the field of biometrics-the fingerprint application locker/scanner. It is worth noting that personal data, as more and more sophisticated technologies emerge, one can synchronize the banking details, personal details such as photos, emails, work details, etc. in the mobile phone. The threat posed by losing the mobile phone when it is unprotected, or an unauthorized access created a demand for enhancement of protection of such data. It had proved easy to hack or crack passwords on the mobiles devices as people made easier passwords due to high rate for failures of the same. Biometrics data cannot be hacked or bypassed as it requires the finger prints of the owner or the authorized persons.
How does the fingerprint app work? The app is made such that it detects the finger prints of the user, stores the details, and can only unlock the phone upon matching the stored finger prints. In this case, just as the other phone locks, one is prompted through settings to enter fingerprints that are saved. Every time one wants to use the phone, the person has to use the finger print detector/scanner to open it. The same can be used in purchases of goods and commodity such as in iTunes; in this case, instead of using passwords, one can use the fingerprints as the major authentication means in the process of purchases.
Why is this system better? As mentioned earlier the failure rates of passwords and pattern locks made people make lesser difficult passwords and patterns making their devices vulnerable. With biometric fingerprinting, there is no foreseeable way of hacking into the device! Perhaps one has to cut the fingers of the owner and use them! For this reason, it has provided one of surest ways for protecting data stored in the mobile devices. As any other protection means, one can change the fingerprints by deleting the pre-existing fingerprints. Therefore, it allows for exchange for the phone or even reselling.
The main advantage is that no one can access the stored data with the authority of the owner. In addition, in the event the phone is stolen, by the time the owner takes measures either to track it or to disable it; no one would have tampered with the stored data. It also has a free to choose acoustic feedback (“Fingerprint lock, April 21, 2014) making it very easy to use. It is very easy o copy password as one type them or even follow up the pattern as one makes them, and hence access the mobile device at an opportune time without even the owner knowing. All these tricks are not possible with the fingerprints scanner making it one of the best security apps. It also reduces the cumbersomeness of typing passwords, and making patterns to unlock mobile devices (Brett Nuckles, January 21, 2015).
