Lottery implies an unsystematic approach to acquire financial proprieties by an individual. It creates an exciting ambience among the people who participate in a lottery (and even who does not contribute), with exhilarating question of ‘who will win?’ People utilize their materialistic and moral notions to break the code of ‘getting rich instantly’ by playing their ‘luck.’ It is quite common that many people feel lucky at times or feel someone to be lucky for their success and approve their decisions by playing and participating themselves in such dramas. It could be fun to pay and take part in a lottery but, it is always a sign of ‘greed’ embedded in subconscious of the individual. However, it could not be ignored that what are the odds to win the lottery is there for a person, obviously very less (like 1 in 50,000). The whole process designs an increasing greed inside the people’s mind, which makes them to pay and take part. Lottery is not a good idea to go with. It breaks and unorganise moral and ethical structure of the contributing people; it constructs an ideology of consistent greed and endless appetite for winning.
Lottery expedites poor public policy which targets poor or middle class people as rich people do not buy lottery tickets. Moreover, there exists popping certainties associated with declaring winners because only a small percentage of the total participants are supposed to win certain amounts in the form of cash or prizes. There are a number of reasons why people should not participate in lotteries as these do not pay better returns at most of the times.
One of the important drawbacks of getting into lottery thing is that it encourages greediness and discourages moral responsibility towards work principles. People play lotteries in order to win big lumps of money in a short span of time. This increased tendency of the people builds their immoral attitudes towards genuine earning, which in turn shapes responsible image of the people. It is a good saying, “whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow” The lottery aspect depicts that a person can get lots of things (financially) within no time and without working hard but, by partaking in the process that does not pay at most of the times. Playing lottery evokes wastage of money and time, and also, it defeats the moral character of the individual by hampering rectitude.
The lottery stimulates deprived exemplification of individual assets and finances. Financially speaking, joining a lottery practice evokes poor sense of financial management of a person. Lottery is nothing but an alternative way of sucking money by the government treasuries from common people who are legitimately poor at mathematics and calculations (Lewis, 2012). It is another way of generating huge lumps of money from the people unconventionally. Unfortunately, most of the people never know and understand the logic behind the whole spectacle, and ultimately they prioritise their participation in the process over their other assets.
The lottery promulgates a rapacious association between the lottery administration (State, Government) and the participants (citizens). Lotteries establish a means of revenue generation for the administrators without actually implementing a reasonable framework of generating finances from the people of a state or nation. In many countries, like the United States, the lotteries literary mean to generate revenues from its citizens by raising big hopes among them; this promotes an aura of ‘financial greed’ among both the parties – the government and the citizens.
Playing lotteries challenges an individual in many ways, like despite his or her skilful qualities; the person’s talent gets supressed and a sense of ‘addiction’ initiates that is harmful for his or her personal as well as professional growth. People play lotteries to check their luck, out of curiosity, at most of the times. Winning makes them play more and more, and of course, they would not be able to win every time but their will to play more increases and marks their consistent participation in them. Moreover, many research studies have shown that people with less educational background and poor economic condition participate in the lotteries. There are families who have to face hunger because all of their money is wasted on lottery tickets. Such incidents occur s playing lotteries deteriorates the managing abilities of the people. People become more vulnerable and are unable to frame their better future with ample assets and money.
Lotteries have also other negative impacts associated with it. For instance, there are more chances of ‘not winning’ than ‘winning’ a lottery, due to immensely unbalanced odds (Ronald, 2014). People acquire depression and face severe mental stress on losing, which initiates other severe destructive effects linked to it. Stress and depression of an individual affects his or her family and children in many ways. For instance, the children would not be able to get desired education and health facilities due to the poor spending of the money in the lotteries.
Lotteries indicate an unfair attachment of a person with the lottery authorities, which are only meant to extract money from the common people. Playing lotteries is bad and there are number of negative implications associated with it. Although, it can make a person rich within no time but, he or she has to make unjust compromises with other important expanses of life. People should make themselves accountable to think that ‘what are the odds of winning a lottery?’ – Of course, really less. Also, playing lotteries indicates poor cognitive development of the people with immature educational background that definitely affects the managing abilities of the person for better future of his family in general.
