What I consider as one of my primary strengths in my application for the graduate program in nursing is my strong background in the clinical setting. I am working in a heart catherization laboratory that aided in shaping my articulation in medical procedures despite of the high-level of stress and pressure in the workplace. As I plan to pursue the MSN, I wish to take my career into another level that will expose me to more complex medical situations. Graduate school is a serious commitment and it has been part of my plan ever since. As my method of learning the ropes of nursing, I took on jobs that provided me with good exposures. My work experience taught me a high sense of responsibility and compassion towards people.
When I began my career as a nurse on the Medical-Surgical Floor, I immediately felt a strong passion towards the field. As I provided support to the physicians on a daily basis I was impressed on how tedious their works were and I soon learned that this profession was something I picture myself doing in the future. I received encouragement each time I see patients’ conditions improve. My parents would often remind that nothing in life is easy if it is worth having. I repeated that mantra countless of times especially during difficult situations in the clinic. I handled a wide range of patient population and participated in many clinical procedures such as the initiation of emergency measures and discharge protocols.
I understand that my career choice is grueling but I believe that it is worth every effort in the beginning. Since nursing is the profession I chose, I will stop at nothing until I reach the point in my career that I know I have accomplished much and can now share valuable knowledge to the younger generation. Nursing fits my personality very well especially since I enjoy serving other people. I have witnessed personally just how big of an impact nurses have on the lives of others. I always look at nurses as role models because they can give inspiration to people. My ultimate goal is to be a positive influence in the lives of people while remaining intellectually-challenged. As a nurse, I know that I will carry out the responsibility of promoting a healthy lifestyle.
I want to specialize in Family Nursing because I want to influence patients even during the early part of their lives. As a family nurse, I can provide comprehensive health service throughout their lifespan. I can develop strong connection and rapport with my patients which will affect the way they live. Since the settings involved are diverse, I can expand my skill set. I will involve in the documentation of both individual and family health history so that I can help tailor their treatments when the need arises. I would love to stay in the field of cardiology. However, I am open to any opportunities that will come my way. Aside from Family Nursing, I am also considering adult-gerontology primary care option so that I will remain in line with nursing.
Once I am admitted to the graduate program I will offer my full dedication in studying. I do not plan on working while studying in order for me to give time and resources in studying. In the future, I plan to work on bigger hospitals so that my environment will be more challenging and diverse. I do want to learn as much as I can. I describe myself as a sponge that is looking forward to new experiences and learning. I would also love to work in rural area to provide quality health care to the less privileged. In my opinion, nurses are more needed in such areas so that they have someone to teach them the importance of living healthy. I can extend to them my services and hopefully provide them with a better future.
