I am an international student applying for entry into the Master of Science in Information Systems Technology (MSIST) program offered by George Washington University (GWU). I believe that I am ideally qualified for this program, having graduated last summer from the University of Canberra (Australia) with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, majoring in Information Systems. This month, the University of Canberra has advised me that I have been awarded the Department of Employment Prize for the highest academic achieving student in Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.
The MSIST program is a natural successor for me to my Bachelor’s degree, with a content and structure that exactly matches my requirements. The curriculum with its innovative mix of courses on information technology and management (as well as the choices of specialized electives) will be of tremendous benefit to me. It is my objective to gain a greater understanding of the latest technology as well as to acquire the necessary management skills needed in this field.
Having researched the graduate programs available, I chose GWU for a number of reasons in addition to the program curriculum and content. Firstly, the GWU School of Business is highly rated in USA business school rankings and enjoys an enviable reputation. Its location is perfect for me and the school has exceptional resources and a great full-time faculty comprised of experts in their fields. I also like the fact that the MSIST program began a long time ago (1980), so has had ample time to evolve and improve to become the leading tried-and-tested such program offered today.
At this point, my short-term goals are firstly to complete my MSIST degree with the best possible outcome, then to secure a position in the field of business analysis and information technology project management. Ideally, I shall be seeking a position whereby I can grow with the organization and make a significant contribution to that growth. I have good leadership qualities but I am also a good team member with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
My longer-term objective is to eventually become a CIO (chief of information technology officer) in the employ of the government of my home country. In that role I hope to be able to influence the various government organizations to adopt E-government technologies and methodologies for greater efficiency.
I am an outgoing individual and have demonstrated highly developed analytical and research skills, as well as strong project management capabilities covering all aspects of a project including hardware and software, costs control, system evaluation and testing, and project documentation. I also have excellent technical abilities and knowledge of various programming languages.
Overall, I have every confidence that the MSIST program will in its entirety allow me to significantly develop and enhance and my information technology knowledge and skills, which in turn will be vital to the advancement of my intended career in information technology.
Thank you for your time and consideration in reviewing my statement of career objectives.
