Free Argumentative Essay About Biocentrism
Argument for
There is no doubt that all living things, for their own sake, deserve our moral consideration. As a matter of fact, all living things have feelings and they deserve to b treated the best way possible. Because humans have the responsibility to take care of them, a moral perspective must be considered in whatever actions that human take. Like humans, the quality of life of all living things depends on how well or bad they are treated. Moral considerations mean that humans will take into account the fact that these living things deserve to be treated with dignity.
Reasons against
Essentially, biocentrism is a paradigm that is anti-human. As such, it will always sacrifice the well-being of humans for the greater god of other living things. Whether this is achievable or not is a matter of debate. Biocentrism promotes individualism in one way or the other. For instance, t puts much emphasis on the importance of personal life, hence neglecting collective groups (ecosystem, for instance). This brings double standards and confusion on the best approach to take. Whereas other living things are important too, their importance cannot be equated to that of human beings who control the world. Because of this, the argument for biocentrism is flawed.
Whether biocentrism survives this line of objection
In practice, this line of practice does not hold any water. Consistently, there are cases of people being punished for going against the notion of biocentrism. There is no doubt that the other living things play a role in stabilizing the world and bringing sanity. However, it would be wrong to equate the role the play to that of human beings. Because of this, biocentrism should not be taken seriously.
