Unfortunately, bullying has become one of the most actual problems for modern schools. Bullying usually starts in the graduate school, but sometimes kids tend to suffer from it even in high school resulting in children skipping school, failing exams, or simply avoiding people. Baring in mind the development of Internet sources and social networks, bullying is now following children to their homes via emails, posts, tweets, etc. The phenomenon which we all know as cyberbullying.
Nowadays, the most popular victims among bullies are either smart and talented kids, or those who are silent or shy. In general, children who stand out the most are more likely to become victims of bullying than the others. It is in our nature to be afraid or feel insecure around those who are different and the easiest way to deal with these feelings is to attack first. In order not to be attacked and called names, or even get beaten up, the smart children tend to hide their academic achievements and prefer to stay unnoticed. It is very disturbing that children, instead of celebrating their talents, are forced to hide them. Some of them even consciously fail or show average results in subjects they are good at.
The other reason the smart children might be bullied is due to physical strength. As a rule, people who are occupied with work which requires hard mental labor are physically weaker than the others. And it is always easier to attach the one who you can easily deal with than the person who will be able to fight back.
Also, many children at the age from 7 to 15 undergo physical changes that involve the interference of a doctor. As result, children are forced to wear glasses, brackets, and other devices for quite some time which also makes them the victims of bullies.
In other words, the smart or talented kids are bullied more often just because they stand out or act and behave different from other students, or look different and are weaker than the rest of the class.
