Why did Google make this move? What do they hope to accomplish?
It was a move aimed at making at satisfying all customers with a better mobile telephone usage. Google wanted to enter the competitive wireless market and ensure that all its customers received quality services. The company expects to attract a much larger clientele than it already has. It will have all its services in new applications that will be wireless. It will help boost sales, increase innovation, and stay ahead of the competition (Gardner, 2007).
How does Google's support for Open Access fit into Google's plans?
Google's plan was to provide a wireless platform for mobile phone users. Google also supported openness in four major ways that fit well into its major plan. The first way was to have open applications where consumers would have the freedom to download software or any other services without any restrictions. The second one was to have open devices. These are the devices that would give consumers the freedom to choose the type of network they would feel comfortable in. The device would not be restrictive (Reed, 2007). The third way was to have open services. It would involve fairness when it came to wholesaling of spectrums to interested third parties and no one will be locked out. The last was to have open networks. These would be the internet rules that would allow networks to connect. They would only require some form of compatibility for everything to be well connected. It was an excellent strategy that paved a way for Google's plans to be successful.
It looks like Google wants to get into wireless, yet wireless is not one of Google's core competencies. What should Google do about this?
It was a good idea for Google. Even though it was not one of its competencies, but it is good to try everything. There was a niche that was empty in the market that required to be covered up. Consumers were also highly restricted to many things. Google helped stop the oppression and received a permit to operate in this market. Wireless technology is useful if well invested and that is what Google did. Not only did it enjoy the outcome but also it gave way to freedom in the wireless technology field especially to the consumers (Gardner, 2007).
Apply as many TCOs as you can to Google's attempt to buy into wireless
There are various TCOs that are applicable to the Google's attempt to buy into wireless. One of them is to look for a deployment strategy that would facilitate its success. It would be applied by having an excellent strategy that would help in penetration in the market. It could first be deployed to users who use the internet frequently. These are the young adults. They would, for this reason, create awareness of the product amongst each other and to other people. The second applicable TCO is to protect technological innovations. It is where copyrights come in. The company should secure its innovation such that no one can copy or try to have the same innovation until a specified time is over. It will help Google establish its innovation very well in the market and try to stay ahead of the competition at all times. The last TCO is to increase innovation internally and externally. It can be done by having an innovation center where innovators can bring in their ideas.
