As America is one of the most powerful nation states in the world, its influence in the process of globalization cannot be surpassed. Hence, the two terms have become synonymous in the present era.
Also, there is an ongoing debate regarding the pros and cons of globalization. While there is concern regarding hegemony of the dominant American culture all over the world, globalization also has its far-fetched effects on the entire world- something that is positive in its outcome. In a world that is separated by boundaries and distinctions, globalization serves the purpose of uniting the world population.
While the dominant culture and the consumerism shroud the entire world, the cultural identity of a particular community gets threatened due to the influence of the dominant culture. Thus, it becomes difficult for people to keep their individual ethnic identity far away and distinct from the effects of globalization that has taken over the entire world.
However, the other effect of globalization is that people are not constricted within the boundaries of their motherland. People have ample opportunities in the present times to travel abroad. They can easily find employment, and thus can lead a better life in a better milieu. Thus, relatives of a person can be spread across the world- something that binds the world together for that respective individual. The concept of homeland has transformed since people can reach any place within considerable span of time.
People should stop thinking of globalization as an ill-force that threatens the culture, community and identity of population across the world. Rather, the good things of globalization should be highlighted. People need to utilize the pros of globalization for their benefits. Like every other occurrence or phenomena, globalization can also be viewed from different perspectives by people. However, the primary ambition in one’s life should be accept the inevitable changes that take place, and make the best of the opportunities.
Thus, one can also argue that globalization is not a pseudonym of hegemony of the powerful nations. It is also a dynamic force that is greatly instrumental in uniting the world nullifying all the diversities and boundaries. With optimum level of connectivity among people, globalization has made the world a better place to live in.
Globalization not only brings people together, it also works for the cumulative and holistic growth of the world society. The cause of human unity is aided by globalization. Although the omnipotent influence of America in the phenomenon of globalization cannot be denied, this can only work to accentuate the good effects of globalization. The other nations and communities should take the advantage of the globalized economy and society.
People should be lost in the conflict of the communities, languages and identities. Rather, they should promptly engage in amiable relationship with people with cultural differences. The population of the world should embrace the transformation of the world society, leaving aside xenophobia or fundamentalism. Only under such a circumstance, the world can steer its way to holistic development in the strictest sense of the term.
