While enjoying my ride to the park in the bus on a happy Sunday morning, I overheard an old man telling his fellow that the young people of today have a predilection for shortcuts. Therefore, he likes to call it the shortcut age. This comment by the old man got me down to cogitating upon whether it is actually true. My first course of thought was towards the way technology has changed our lives. A deeper analysis actually lent color to the fact that the youth of today is no doubt shortcut fans.
In the days when internet had not made a common appearance, students still had to browse huge libraries for reference purposes. They used to call friends and talk for hours in order to describe the feelings of the latest trip or the latest celebration. On Christmas and other such events, children used to make cards for each other. However, with the advent of the internet and social networking, all such activities snuffed out. Research for assignments is done through the internet, and huge online databases and libraries that consist of books on almost every topic one can ever think of. Instead of calling each friend separately, it is considered more intelligent to upload a few pictures on Facebook. Birthdays are usually wished by uploading a collage and a status on Facebook. In other words, we seek a shortcut for every action.
Indubitably in the pursuit for shortcuts, the noble intentions, and genuinely sincere feelings have been forgotten along the way. While technology has definitely bestowed copious blessings on us, it has also caused much harm to the humans in terms of diminishing sincerity and genuine happiness.
