On my way to work the other day, I switched on the radio and heard a woman talk about how her husband of 10 years has walked out on her. I began to think how the men of today have neglected their duties as fathers and husbands and passed it on to the women. Men would call back to the radio station and emphasize that things are different now and both parties should share roles. When you look all around you, these stories are everywhere from the television, newspapers, even in the neighborhood. My mind recalled the stories that my grandfather used to tell us when we were young. He said that there were never any such stories of child neglect and men took their responsibilities very seriously.
Personally, I blame partly the modern women and the men themselves. How do you expect to raise a man when you do not treat him as such? From the time they are young the men of today do not do manly jobs or they are not exposed to tough situations. Therefore, when they are older they find it hard to cope with the tough situations are prefer to ran away. I feel that men should be treated as men from when they are still young. I feel bad when I see a young man prefer to stay at home with his sisters instead of being out with his father or uncle doing manly things. Men should be taught the skill of providing from a young age, they should start by taking care of their mother and sisters. They should make sure the sink is fixed or the broken door handle and not have to rely on a plumber because he has to play his video game. Mothers should be tough on their sons if they want them to be strong men in the future.
The young men should be told that it is their responsibility to take care of their sisters while in school. They should make sure they are not bullied, if they are in the same school. Instead of running to catch up with their friends about the latest music first, they should make sure their little sisters are well settled in. There should be a very big difference between the boys and the girls in the house from they are still young. This problem should be fixed when they are still small. Boys should do a man’s roles and girls should do a woman’s roles and not have to spend their entire day on the internet chatting with their friends or watching television. The men who called back at the radio station and said that it was the woman’s fault did the wrong thing. I believe that when I fail at my responsibility it is right for me to own up and not pass the blame to someone else, it should not be the other person’s fault.
A man needs to be strong and take care of his family well, running away will not solve anything on the contrary it will just add more problems. It is okay to feel weak but it is not okay run away from one’s pains and mistakes. Men should know they are bringing up the next generation and if they are not careful, their sons will turn out just like them. Therefore, their sons will be weak and irresponsible and abandon their children and families. A strong man needs to stand up and save the rest.
The men of today should learn lessons from their grandfathers. A man should be strong even when he feels so much pain on the inside; he should be strong for his family. A man is not supposed to show weakness and leave the woman to solve the problem. It should be the other way round, the woman is the one supposed to support the man as they all try to solve the problem. Therefore, as more and more women continue to call the radio stations the men should take a step back and identify where they went wrong. I want to challenge all men to accept that they have fallen short of their roles and responsibilities, own up then make an effort to change for the sake of their sons.
