Radical Islam and the Threat to the United States
Radical Islam is a threat to the whole world, not only the U.S. But the word “radical” must be emphasized. Deeply religious people who share the values of this religion and have faith with their hearts will never commit those terrible things that radicals do. That is why putting labels such as a “religious war” on the conflict between the U.S. and the Islamic State means declaring a war to true believers as well as to killers from the ISIS.
The rise of Islamic State and continuous terrorist attacks in Europe and Australia really brings up the question of means to withstand the threat and to protect innocent people. Moreover, as Ben Caspit (2014) says “many jihadists hold British, Scandinavian, French and other nationalities. They are the children of immigrants from Islamic countries who were naturalized and educated in enlightened Europe.” That makes everyone wonder what exactly pushes those, who were brought up in the society with American or European values, to join the army and go to kill people. Barack Obama said in his interview to CNN's journalist that “we do ourselves a disservice in this fight if we are not taking into account the fact that the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject this ideology” (Diamond, 2015). Military response may provoke further escalation of the conflict that may lead to more and more casualties. It is understandable why the world's leading nations are targeted. It is obvious that they should unite in an attempt to tackle radicals but this does not mean to start “religious war”, this means to continue war against global terrorism.
