It is to be understood first that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted by the United Nations after the Second World War. The purpose for doing such was to prevent the atrocities that happened during the said war. Article 3 of UDHR is especially included in order to protect individuals by preserving their fundamental human rights despite the existence of such conflicts whether it is on the local or national level.
The term “security of person” in the said article for example, has caused the enactment of laws by diverse nations that are designed to protect prisoners, especially prisoners of war. These prisoners are protecting from torture or any form of abuse while they are detained or incarcerated. When a person has undergone an Illegal imprisonment or detention he or she may call upon the Habeas Corpus to punish those who are responsible. It is clear from his example how UDHR contributes to justice. When it comes to its contribution to freedom, UDHR prevents countries from infringing on each other’s liberties. Laws that govern territorial sovereignty as well access to international waters have been created in accordance or with consideration to this declaration in the UHDR. With justice and freedom being push forward by the United Nations other world organizations follow and many nations soon joined the United Nations after the Second World War. The UDHR serves now as a standard on for foreign policy, as well as national or local laws and regulation, especially for those countries who are members of the UN.
The adoption Universal Declaration of Human Rights is one of the most important steps that the United Nations has done which until now protects countless individuals and nations. It helps preserve liberty, the right to life, and security of person by becoming a standard or one of the primary considerations for governance and in creating foreign and local policies.
