Free Critical Thinking On What Is A Health Insurance Marketplace?

The Health Insurance Marketplace -also referred to as the Health Insurance Exchange- are organizations which assist individuals lacking healthcare insurance with relevant information that guides them to knowledge on health insurance options and its purchase (IRS). It also provides information concerning the payment of premiums and reducing out-of-pocket costs. This system of government makes it easy for citizens to buy health insurance in accord with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).

How is it connected to the federal health care reform law (Accountable Care Act)?

The health insurance marketplace operates in accordance with the Accountable Care Act. The health care reform law was signed on March 23, by President Obama. The law comes into place to help consumers to take responsibility for their health. The Affordable Care Act aims at ensuring that health services are accessible, affordable and reflects expected quality and standards (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services). It plays a similar role to Health Insurance Marketplace because both targets the uninsured Americans to access better insurance coverage through enlightening them with the necessary information. The Act emphasizes the importance of providing adequate coverage and security to the American citizens.

Challenges those are currently underway regarding the subsidies (King v. Burwell case)

The King v. Burwell case poses threats to the subsidies enjoyed by more than 7.5 million American citizens. The fate of the beneficiaries of the Affordable Care Act is in jeopardy because if it happens that the court rules against the act, people from more than 34 states will lose their subsidies (Bloch, Sanger-Katz, Lai, and Parlapiano).The people who will be mostly affected are those that have enrolled in Healthcare Marketplace. Also, the ruling will affect all individuals since it is projected that the insurance rates will increase because the insurance pools will get old and less healthy. The ruling will automatically reduce the insurance coverage, and this will have a negative effect on the health status of the American population.
