The application of mobile technologies including but not limited to mobile phones, text messaging and internet sources such as web pages and discussion forums.
It also involves the application of electronic mail and other smartphone features. The new trend also involves the inclusion of gangs of harassers who take advantage of the easy to use online forum to strain their actions on one or two characters.
The role of the Internet
Arguably, the internet was intended to positively contribute to communication by replacing traditional media.
However, the internet has been abused by cyber bullies who take advantage of such media to perpetrate their bullying activities.
Comparison to traditional bullying methods
It is imperative to appreciate that the victims can ignore online bullying and thereby avoid victimization. However, this calls for restraint on the part of the victims.

There is the need to apprise the public of the problem. Make the public aware of cyberbullying and its various forms.

Whole school policies- this entails the application of anti-bullying policies within schools and subjecting the same to strict compliance.
Supervision- entails overseeing the online activities that children engage in. This requires the input of parents.
Programs- entail the implementation of preventive programs which take into account the role of bystanders.
