The federal government is willing, prepared and ready to provide early intervention and therapy for children birth to age three. Therefore, the federal government gave power back to the states in order to come up with a program of carrying out this task. Early childhood intervention comprises providing services, education and support to young children who are deemed to have an established condition and those who have a diagnosed physical or mental condition. The program is primarily designed to identify and meet the child’s need in the five developmental areas. These developmental areas include communication, coordinated development, adaptive development, social or emotional development and physical development. When working with these children or when providing this service to the children, educators and therapists should collaborate closely with the parents of these children in order to help them on how to identify the physical as well as mental requirements of these children.
The experience teaches us that we should track each child’s developmental growth carefully, and we should address them in the most appropriate way. Engaging therapists is also an important consideration in helping a child overcome their developmental challenges. We also learn that engaging the right therapist for every developmental need is significant. The primary caregiver of a particular child as well should be present when the therapist is administering the service in order to aid the child develop a sound relationship with him//her. Setting an effective routine is also an important factor to consider when engaging a therapist. The child undergoing this therapy should be carefully monitored so as to realize the development of strength or the effectiveness of this service. We also learned that timely support given to a child will help them to catch up and will make us avoid spending money on the child later on. It is also important to note that early childhood intervention helps avert or lessen the effects of disability or delay in the development of the child.
