Edible packaging is one of the brilliant innovative ideas that companies have implemented. The edible packaging was created by a Japanese businessman known as Katsuhiko. There are imperative reasons for the creation of edible packaging. One of the goals is that it was intended to help the restaurant to be more interactive with the community, especially in downtown Honolulu. In addition, the idea of edible packaging was meant to attract many tours to the restaurant. The aspect of profitability also played an incredible role in the creation of the idea. On the same note, Katsuhiko products focused on environmental protection. The concept of edible packaging included edible tableware such as plates, knives, as well as spoons (Takaguchi, 2014). The plates are made of seaweeds and crackers, which have the potential of holding water for more than thirty minutes. Shrimp crackers were the first material to be tested. The company made a decision to mix the shrimp crackers bake it under high temperatures to produce a plate that is five inch thick.
Sakakibara is part of the factory that campaigned for their bowls and plates asserting that they are environmental friendly. In addition, they are producing an edible tableware using the 3-D printers (Synder, 2014). The edible tableware can also be produced using a mold. These ideas help in enhancing profitability in the business. The profit aspect is attained through pricing of each tableware used and including it in the price of the products. For example, if a cupcake is valued at $1, spoon at $0, 50 c and plate $ 0, 75 c, and market up at $1.5, then retail price will be $3.50.
