Making a recommendation requires a sound knowledge of the person for whom recognition is sought. Dr. Hall, who teaches junior level electrical engineering class, is among the few young, affable, considerate, and easily accessible professors one can ever see. As a teacher who integrates teaching and research, and employs innovative teaching techniques, Dr. Hall prepares his exam papers with a lot of deliberation. Yet, Dr. Hall is known for his magnanimity when evaluating his students’ answers papers.
Having received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 2008 and 2012, and having done internships with General Electric, Bentley Nevada Corporation, and National Semiconductor Corporation, Dr. Hall used his experience and knowledge to infuse life into classroom lectures. His style is a refreshing change from the standard lectures we are used to in class, and it not only changed the way classroom sessions went, but also made learning interesting. This perhaps sums up the reason why he received the 2011 Analog Devices Outstanding Designer Award, and also came first in the inaugural international IEEE Change the World Competition and the BME-IDEA invention competition.
In considering the criteria for selection, and the nomination tips of the Chancellor’s Associates Faculty Excellence Awards Selection Committee members the basis of their selection, it can be said that Dr. Hall meets all the required qualities and criteria necessary for him to be recommended for the best teacher award. I would therefore like to nominate and support Dr. Hall’s name for this prestigious award.
