America has always been envisioned as the land of opportunities where access to equal rights and abundant resources prevail. Americans are, therefore, envied for being raised in an environment that is conducive to holistic personal and professional growth. As such, the cultural and macro external environment enables the development of characteristics and traits that embody an ideal American. The current discourse hereby aims to explore the character traits of an ideal American from one’s personal perspective.
The term ‘ideal’ is deemed to be analogous to conditions of near perfection. An ideal person, per se, could be described as an individual who possesses flawless qualities and traits: an excellent physique, an open and mature mind-set, emotionally intelligent, psychologically sound with manifestations of responsible judgment, an optimistic bearing of the future, and cognizant of the need to adhere to ethical, moral, and legal codes of conduct. An American bearing these characteristics and traits are pegged as ideal in the true sense of the word. However, one avers that the concept of idealism is actually relative; meaning, what is ideal to one person could not be same to others. Yet, since American is the land of opportunities, the ability to develop these character traits could be contended as more preponderant and easily achievable to Americans with exemplary self-discipline and an altruistic goal.
In retrospect, an ideal American, just like any other ideal person, embodies characteristics of a self-less individual who considers serving the best interests of others as the paramount purpose in life. The possession of a positive character is only beneficial to the ideal person for reasons that these traits influence others to reach a similar state of idealism in the future.
