Suggest at least three outcomes you want and expect from this course.

Much is to be learned from the course. First, I expect to learn how green ICT applications and initiatives, such as cloud computing, video conferencing and smart grids. Also, learn how they can aid in trivializing the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs), thus ensuring green growth. I also expect to be able to evaluate the contribution of ICT to the emission of GHGs, which lead to climatic changes. Moreover, I expect to equip myself with skills that will enable me to create awareness on the importance of green ICT among colleagues and society, in general (International Telecommunication Union, 2010).
2. In up to three paragraphs, describe the factors that affect Climate Change and how responses to climate change may affect the organization in which you work (or one of your choice). Use the following questions as a guide:

What industry is the organization involved in?

Many companies have implemented the green ICT strategies. For instance the International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation, which engages in the technology, has taken tremendous initiatives so as to ensure that it minimizes its emission of GHG.
ii. What are its principal lines of goods or services? Do these contribute to greenhouse gas production?
Mainly, IBM is involved in manufacturing and marketing computer software and hardware (IBM, 2013). Perfluorcompounds (PFCs) are emitted from the semiconductor manufacturing plane of IBM. Also, carbon dioxide (CO2) is released by the companies that provide electricity to IBM and from its operations as well, albeit in small amounts.
iii. Are there processes in place to reduce greenhouse gas production? If not, can you suggest some?
IBM reduces these emissions through the use of; renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind; cooling systems that are energy efficient. Also, it reduces through the new technologies in the manufacture of their semiconductors (IBM, 2007). Additionally, IBM can start buying redundant computer hardware and recycling it (Bunter, 2012).
3. Search for sources of articles and papers on green ICT (possible sources include CIO Magazine, Information Age, Computer Weekly, Google Scholar, etc). Identify and justify which sources you think are best.
Myriads of academic sources of information exist on green ICT. However, Google Scholar and Computer Weekly, Information Age emerge to be the best sources since they all offer a wide range of papers and articles that specifically cover on the issue of green ICT. On the contrary, CIO Magazine has limited sources on the topic and thus less reliable as compared to the others. Moreover, Google Scholar offers articles and papers that are in downloadable format, such as PDF, and this makes future reference to these articles and papers possible even without having internet connection (Heller-Ross, 2008).
