Chapter 7 Questions
If I were a board member on the HRM committee of human service or health care organization in the state of NY I would consider various factors to determine an equitable level of compensation for the executive staff. Many of these factors would include the actual job skill required to perform the duties in their position, the cost of living in the area, and also a comparison of what other similar executive staff in other regions are paid to figure out the fair amount of compensation. The executive level jobs required advanced educational backgrounds to qualify for such positions. These decision-making positions often have higher mental demands with complex supervisory duties with increased responsibility. The risk of the executive staff positions are also riskier justifying the need for higher security of pay while in the position. The job equity of the executive also has an excessive input output ratio compared to other employees.
The strategies I would implement to see that all of the staff are paid fairly is to look at multitude of requirements discussed in chapter seven to factor fair pay. First the prior education or experience of the employee would be a factor that determines the compensation. The input output of the task in their position is important to the decision in understanding the employee equity of each person working for the organization. Other strategies such as the ranking of the employee would be incorporated to help create fair pay scales among employees. A strategy that I believe would be extremely fair and help in productivity is the gainsharing program that seems to create a motivating factor for all staff to work towards a similar goal.
