In Chapter- Two, Knowledge, Culture, and Research the reading material explores the concepts to understand and the writer will summarize the topics in the paper. Many theories in philosophy have evaluated the idea of knowledge and where it comes from. One of the theories mentioned in the reading material is the pragmatic approach, stating that the outcome of the knowledge is usually based on a comparison of a pre-existing object or idea. Another philosophical explanation for knowledge is called reflection-correspondence theory that declares that reflecting on a concept that one has been exposed to, is how knowledge is gained. Last, of the philosophical side of the discussion it the theory of constructivism, which states that knowledge strictly is made up from nothing, into something.
Another pivotal portion of the reading material included the law of entropy. The law of entropy, commonly known in thermos-dynamics; however, here it is the idea that order is eventually going to lead to disorder. An example that is used in the book says that even though technology has order, it is leading us to disorder, because of problems like the use of cell phones distracting drivers. The point basically leads to the post-modernist idea that things are not set a certain way, but always in motion. Forming knowledge as a final declaration is not possible if things are constantly changing and becoming something else.
The primary objective of the chapter is implying that the use of all the sciences must be considered when forming knowledge, culture, or research. Nothing is going to remain the same as one finds ‘it’ because the environment around everything is changing all the time.
