Becoming adults, people often wonder why children at school are forced to constantly write creative essays, displaying each letter accurately and precisely, to read large volumes of literature, but the answer in fact is not so complex. All these key types of activities that are aimed to improve the level of literacy you have consequently can shape yourself as a personality, your sphere of interests and help to determine which niche in your life you want to occupy.
It is important to estimate that experience that you gained at school while concentrating your attention on those books which you don’t like and which you are made to read, after all this time seems to have lived not in vain. I clearly remember that exactly while studying at school I tried to cope with all tasks and assignments that were asked to do, though I didn’t enjoy much when doing them. Actually the question about who I am as a writer made me think a lot. It is hardly to judge myself considering all my faults and advantages, nevertheless adding constructive criticism, I still think of myself as an average writer. Though I have tried all my best to surpass my previous achievements and acquire new stock of information each time when I had to write this or that assignment, I still haven’t reached the heights and goals I wanted to reach. It was a great challenge for me to cope with mastering my skills in English as my first language is Spanish and I really had to stretch myself in order to improve my knowledge step by step, thus I always tried to pay attention closely to grammar mistakes, enrich my vocabulary so that it could be broad and versatile.
When I tried my hand in writing essays at high school, I understood that with each new attempt to create something really worth, I always hesitate whether I accurately displayed everything I was trying to say or not. However, when I restrained my ardent desire to write on the paper everything what I’m thinking about without embellishing, my thoughtfulness and consideration began to transform from an ordinary school works into more analytical and structured. Though at first times the main aim of each essay or compositions was mainly to get a good mark or response from the teacher, currently if I write something, it seems to be a less difficult and strenuous process as I don’t need to present a piece of work right to a tee similar to an example, paying attention to grammar in order to avoid making ridiculous mistakes. On the contrary, everything that I write depicts my emotional state and my personal interpretation of whatever and I should remark that literary classes at school during which we practiced different techniques of how to improve our compositions, how to replace the words with different synonyms to diversify the work in general, and to make it much more equipped with meaning and filled with beautiful turnovers. These techniques were mainly the key ones that turned my ordinary from one sight compositions into a more or less dignified work out of which it is possible to understand how I own my writing skills and can use them correctly in time.
All in all, perception of myself as a writer or as a reader in its full understanding is still difficult for me as I don’t identify myself as a writer at all and I don’t belong to the cohort of those people who have been working hard during the whole life with an attempt to improve their writing skills in order to depict pure thought on the paper in a correct way without any grammar mistakes. Nevertheless, I belong to the cohort that tries to develop skills taking all efforts. The most important is to believe that it’s up to you to create may not a masterpiece, but something that would evaluated for its sincerity and style. Unless you personally believe in your ultimate result, you will never achieve success in what you are doing. But as for reading I still think that my abilities and ardent desire to read or at least listen books that catch my attention allow me to perceive myself as a reader. The more you burn with the desire to overcome your previous results, the more it is possible that you will achieve success in what you are doing.
