Free Essay On Argument Essay
Throughout my many years in school, various teachers have asked me to write essays supporting an argument, either an argument assigned to me or one of my choosing. It is not an uncommon assignment to have at least once during one’s educational career. My assignments have ranged from simplistic subjects, such as why one product is better than another, to more complex subjects, such as arguing the existence of a higher power. My longest, most complicated, and detailed argument essay was the one about the existence of a higher power.
Argument essays require students to think long and hard about their position and why they are correct in the matter. Students must be able to provide a thorough explanation as to why their stance surpasses that of their opponent. The argument must be presented at the beginning and the student uses the rest of the paper to prove his or her point. One thing I have learned for certain is that when writing the paper, you must be assertive.
Lastly, an author possesses more authority and credibility on the subject when he can use research databases to use scholarly articles to prove the argument. Research databases collect scholarly articles into one place and allows an individual to search through thousands of articles through many decades on the topic of choice. A scholarly journal article is one written by an expert, an individual who has advanced degrees in a particular subject. The expert usually researches the subject thoroughly, maybe for even many years, so that what they report on is in fact the truth.
