Free Essay On Art Commission Statement
Each and every religion approaches art in a different manner. There are also various intriguing insights to the different religious theologies and outlooks as exhibited by a comparison between traditions that are different. For instance, Jewish art flourishes as an expression of political and religious units. Jewish communities in the diaspora adopted, to a large extent, the art of Muslims, Christians, and the Pagan societies and became part of them. As such the achievements in the artistic world are to be searched in these civilizations.
Considering the religious art of the Islam, there is a significant aversion toward figural representation. That is with an exception of the contemporary Shi’ism. Figural art exists in the general cultural environments. The figural art is also seen in the general environments where Islam is considered as the dominant faith and as the prevailing culture. However, it is rarely used in orthodox religious constructions. Also, it is not used to the prohibiting context of the Quran. Notably, it is substituted by Arabian calligraphy, which has, over the years, been developed as a form of art not only for faith symbolisms but also for communication. In these functions, there is incorporation of patterns and geometrical designs. A perfect arabesque sticks out among the piece of work.
In the siting of artwork, the architecture- art relationship has ceased to be a confrontation. The artist and architect coexist with equal status. The worst that can happen in the creation of art in inter-faith setting is when the architect grudgingly abandons the artist with the wall for a painting or the case of a sculptor, a pedestal. The co-existence happens only at the early stages of the design process.
The location of placing the art is conceived even before the piece of art is out. The reason is that the site location of the piece of art sets the parameters and is the main reason for the piece of art. The process of specifying the location involves the understanding and recognition of the site and the surrounding environment (Hansen, 2001). There has been a different approach to Christian religious art. Despite the origin of Christianity from the Jewish faith, the human representation of the Son of God was very important to the early Christian art.
Art compensates the modern developments of all the meaningful levels that get reduced to dimensions that are terrestrial. There are considerations that come up with scale adjustments, placements, and appropriateness. However, it is worth noting that the work of art still has its origin and conception in the studio. The assembling and transportation to the site and at the time, they are referenced by the content and placement familiarity.
The commissioned work will identify with Judaism, early Islam and early Christian, in several ways. The methods of relationship vary from a variety of indicators such as a tree of life, appetite for understanding, bells, patterns windows and rugs (Marsden & Savigny, 2009). The tree of life as a painting on a wall at the entrance of inter-faith cultural and historic center arouses the main decorative motif. A tree of life is found across cultures. It is profound of thinking about life in a deeper perspective. The symbols on the sculpture or painting also focused on the spiritual growths, traditions and relationships. Similarly, the use of bells as a call to a prayer and worship session would be appropriated. The bell pass on the ending of the day. In any of the religions, the use of geometrical patterns is common. In the Islamic faith, the patterns have their religious meanings that at some point connected the faith to modern mathematics.
The selection of public arts to suit the environment and to also trigger intellect among individuals requires a precision of guidelines. A definition of art should be drawn by those looking at the art with ease. The reproductions of art, landscaping, renovations and the installation of the basic elements of architecture would not qualify. As such, the definition that best suits art, as perceived by persons with standard intellect, would be the application of taste and skill that results in the production of tangible objects in line with the esthetic principles.
There is usually an expected religious tolerance and respect for what other people believe. As such, a convergence is observed where the different features in churches, pagodas, and temples being put down using Arabic characters (Wirajuda, 2013). The convergence does not segregate any person in faith but leads to inter-faith interaction session. There has been no consensus. However, that results in an exact art definition, its accessibility, placement, funding or intent. The constitution of monuments, on the other hand, is also not defined despite the underlying concepts of large-scale and commemorative values.
The art chosen should ensure that there is a maintained diversity of the symbols, content and forms of the chosen art to always leave the audience in awe. With inter-faith considerations, a neutral atmosphere should be created triggering creative thinking among different faiths but using the same art.
In conclusion, sculptural art draws its reasons for being from the environs. The process thus requires an intimate and practical study on the site with varying insights from different schools of faith. With inter-faith targets, there is a need for considering the site’s relation to all the implied and applied schemes. The natural events that affect the site should also be put into consideration while the inclination of the faith in the art should depend on the physical and population density in regard to how quiet or busy they are.
