The American history has for many decades been characterized by fear. In most of the time, the country has been at war; and the number one target for terrorists. Involvement by the United States into world affairs has had a significant impact on the emotional status of the American people. It has had both affirmative and negative impacts on both citizens and the country as a whole. This paper discusses both the affirmative and the negative sides of the fear of the American history.
Fear is an emotional feeling induced by a threat perceived by the people, which affect the operation of the brain and organ functionalities (Larson, 2003). Ultimately, it causes people’s change in behavior. The American people have the fear of being targeted by the enemy. When travelling abroad, Americans fear for safety. This came as a result of the government involving in world issues that are beyond the country’s borders. It created more enemies than there were before. However, these activities by the U.S government created an image of a successful and powerful nation on the planet.
Fear of the American history helps keep the enemy warned of the mighty of the country. Engagement into war by the United States showed the world that the power of the country is beyond comparison. This helps keep the enemy at far, by sending a message that it is improbable to succeed in attacking the U.S. Moreover, it positioned America as a producer of the best military weapons in the world hence improving the trade in military equipments. In addition, the country’s position as the world leader contributed to bringing peace among the countries; knowing that the U.S can take action in the event that a country commits heinous crimes against its people.
Also, the country’s wealth and intelligence of the people was exposed to the world. This contributed greatly in presenting the United States as the best place to do business because of its security guaranteed by its military mighty. This attracted many investors from all over the world, hence setting up more factories that created jobs to millions of people. It also attracted many intellectuals who were in search of better opportunities to develop their ideas and grow their talents (Kagan, 2012). This resulted in many inventions hence making America the land of great innovations.
On the other hand, involvement by the government in affairs in other parts of the world caused tension from other countries. Some countries felt that the United States tried to control the world. The fear of the American history has brought emotional effects on the people; especially on their security. The country’s military power led to the production of deadliest weapons in other parts of the world to compete with America. This is very dangerous because a small misuse of these weapons may cause devastating effects on the world.
American history is characterized by both good and bad sides of the argument. The fear of American history is a hot topic that generates serious arguments on its affirmative and negative arguments. Establishment of the United States as the world power and showing off its wealth and intelligence of the American people is a notable contribution to the involvement of the country in world matters. However, its engagement in other countries generated fear and envy from other countries that can do anything to defeat America (Kennedy, 1999).
