Electronic health record is the digitalized way to maintain the health care records of the patient that instantly provides information to the health care professionals (Cherry & Jacob, 2013). The Electronic health record system makes it easier for the individuals to look into medical and history of the patient. However, it is important to identify the diverse needs of the healthcare departments and to ensure that the each EHR software acutely meets the needs of the department (Sollecito & Johnson, 2011). The present team would allow to understand the application of each of the HER software in the different department of the ABC healthcare sector. Therefore, the health information will be managed automatically with a streamlined to support workflow of each department. The team will allow the organization to critically assess the designated leadership of the team, provides a unified vision, measurable, quantifiable and realistic goals that enhance effectiveness of the assessment process of the healthcare organization.
The three software, which can be integrated with the Electronic Health Record system is the electronic prescribing, speech recognition and master patient index. The electronic prescribing will allow the healthcare professional to understand and look into the health record of the patient and reduce the dispersion and confusion in an absence of the senior doctor and provide effectively prescribing. In addition, the use of the speech recognition can allow to support protection and privacy of the patient, as well as, it makes it faster for the health professional rather than typing and improved note quality and permit closing of the patient (Goes & Freidman, 2013). In addition, the use of the master patient index will make it easier for the health professional to access historical information about the patient. It is because master patient index is an electronic database that provides brief information about the patients, contact and medical information that are registered at the health care facility.
However, the integration of the speech recognition, master patient index and electronic prescribing may encounter certain obstacle and challenges that have to be addressed in order to support and enhance healthcare sector. The information, that has to be endorsed in the master patient index, should be correct and free of errors as it can greatly influence the treatment of the patient. In addition, the issues of confidentiality and privacy of the patient remains to be one of the major concerns of the issue. The implementation of the software should be according to the needs of the department.
The implementation of Electronic Health Record system can significantly improve the performance of the health care institution. It improves the coordination among the departments, improves practice efficiencies as well as controls the costs (Goes & Freidman, 2013). In addition, it will promote seamless flow of information within the health care organization and develop strong communication. Moreover, the efficient data management feature of the system will allow the health care facility to bring accuracy to diagnoses and health outcomes. However, the disadvantages, to implement EHR system, are the lack of confidentiality about the information of a patient that can result in issues and conflicts. In addition, it reduces direct contact of health professionals with the patient (Cherry & Jacob, 2013).
