Importance of Engineering and Design for Manufacturing and Construction

An engineering drawing is a graphical representation of an object drawn according to certain standards and proposed for use in the construction or manufacture of the object. Engineering drawings and designs usually have applications in construction projects such as bridges and highways. They also have applications in manufacturing industries. It is evident that without planned designs, engineers would have to rely on trial and error methods which are a recipe for disaster. Such is likely to mess up the final product. Engineering drawings, therefore, constitute a crucial part of the planning process.
Architects and drafters use engineering drawings in their respective fields. The drawings provide detailed instructions on the construction or manufacture of various end products such as building structures. They also provide an overview of both the interior and exterior appearances of structures. The overview, in this case, indicates the exact measurements together with other construction details. By using different sheets for the same drawing, the engineering drawing may also provide different aspects of construction, for instance; plumbing, electrical and mechanical.
In manufacturing, a technical drawing sheds light on the process of manufacturing an item. It eases the procedure for designers to create designs that are not complicated. In essence, the engineering drawing enables the operators to achieve excellent finishes and geometries using the available equipment.
The main aim of an engineering drawing is to store and avail knowledge on design aspects. Engineering drawings enable effective communication among engineers. When archived, they also provide records that are part and parcel of the planning process. Pictures provide easy-to-comprehend diagrammatical representations of objects. As such, engineering drawings provide effective tools for engineers as compared to written plans.
