Discuss why is it important for agency managers to be concerned about
The process of program evaluation is an important undertaking of managers in an organization as a means of determining agency improvement. In the criminal justice in particular, agency managers have the responsibility of evaluating whether a certain program of the agency is effective or not and why. Program evaluation has become a part of criminal justice research that aims to define a better approach in improving the agency program that is responsive in eradicating crimes and to eliminate those that do not yield positive outcomes.
The enforcement of criminal justice programs entails expenditures and it is in the best interest of the justice system to implement evaluation standards to gauge whether a particular program is effective or not in preventing and controlling crimes. The purpose of this process is to limit wasting funds and efforts for ineffective programs and to utilize the government resources in improving better crime prevention system. The role of the agency manager is crucial in the determination of the effectiveness of a specific justice program where research plays a critical role in the exercise of a sound criminal justice policy. According to Schneider (2014), agency managers in-charge of the operation of the criminal justice department need to employ rigorous research and evaluation regarding the effectiveness of a particular criminal justice program through evidence-based and knowledge-based approach in program evaluation involving crime prevention and control policies. Through the conduct of program evaluation, the agency managers can obtain the best evidence that will support their decision making process in the implementation of programs that are designed to prevent crimes.
In conclusion, the process of program evaluation can help the criminal justice managers in their decision making process as a part of its research efforts in determining opportunities for improvement in implementing the criminal justice policies and to help maximize government funds and resources on effective crime control programs.
