Response for the first discussion
The capacity of the oil being produced determines the degree of benefits that will accrue from the project. In order to say that the project will be helpful to the government spending, it is good to weigh the advantages and disadvantages attributed to the oil drilling. I support Kerry’s view that inadequate amount oil drilled is insignificant for the government. Although the cost of importing oil is very high, it is better than drilling a little amount of oil that does not meet the demand. Small amount of oil is a disadvantage since the disadvantages are very many. First, it will lead to destruction of animal wildlife habitats within ANW in Alaska. In addition, the cost of drilling will be more compared to the oil drilled. Finally, it will lead to increase environmental pollution something that will affect negatively the future generation.
Response to second discussion
I do not agree with Will’s argument that environmentalists know nothing about earth friendliness by arguing against oil drilling in ANWR. It is true that oil drilling in ANWR will have adverse effect to the environment due to increased pollution. On the other hand, it is true that the government should focus on coming up with environmental sources of energy. By doing so, the government focus should be expanding those energy sources instead of importing oil that seem to be very expensive. Some of environmental friendly sources of energy include windmills, solar power and hydropower. Therefore, it is true that government should oppose drilling of the oil in ANWR since it will lead to environmental pollution thus affecting the flora and fauna negatively.
