Not so far in the past, the United Nations report provided us with a new but not very unforeseen statistic which states that six of the world’s seven billion population retains the possession of a cell phone. In the United Sates alone, ninety-one percent of the adult population and sixty percent of the teens have cell phones. With such an increased accessibility to the cell phones and also due to the claims that have been in constant circulation regarding the health risks of cell phones, people are asking how safe it is to use and carry the gadget. The device may be providing us with innumerable benefits from communication to the internet to constant entertainment, but there is also a cost that it demands from us. These cell phones emit radiations prolonged exposure to which could have devastating consequences that may result in a reduction in the capabilities of the brain. Constant proximity with our mobile devices may thus be exposing us to several health tribulations and are, therefore, destructive and dangerous.
The foremost factor that supports the claim is the fact that these cell phones reach the markets without any type of safety testing. When the cell phones were first put to use by many profits making organizations, the regulatory agencies were pressured into allowing the device to reach the market without the requirement of safety testing and the agencies broke under the pressure. The trend still remains in practice while those who have the responsibility to regulate the health and safety are looking the other way. As a consequence, more than two billion cell phone users are being exposed to these harmful electromagnetic radiations that are responsible for many health defects counting genetic abnormalities, brain dysfunctions and tumors, sleep disorder and many other assortments of health defects.
There has also been under continuous debate the matter of connection between the use of cell phones and risk of cancer. Even though the scientists have yet to present conclusive evidence which links the two factors, research suggests slight if not pronounced increase in the risk of brain tumors in conformity with the exposure to cell phone radiations. The hindrance that stands in the way of any conclusive tests on the topic is time. Cell phones came into use not very far back, and they became widespread in a very short period of time. That time, unfortunately, has not been enough to draw connections between the two variables.
The claim that we at the moment are comfortable making with confidence is that the effect that the cell phones have on health is more severe for children than it is for adults. The unborn babies are at particular risk of being adversely affected by the microwave radiations emitted by these cell phones. This is because the rate at which children and unborn babies absorb microwave radiations is higher than it is for grownups. The shocking fact is that a child’s brain absorbs twice as much microwave radiation as an adult and children, therefore, are exposed to greater risks of suffering brain issues. For this reason, many countries have even formulated laws that make it necessary to warn the people about the dangers children might suffer from electronics around them.
With all of the stated facts in mind, we need to exercise more care when it comes to the use and exposure of to cell phones we might be forcing ourselves into. In addition to that, particular attention needs to be warranted to the contact that our young ones might be suffering from, and they need to be kept at a safe distance from these devices. These devices may be a great help to us, but it is also necessary that we limit the benefits to the extent of the cost we are willing to pay for these advantages. Any commodity in moderation could assist a great deal but when used to extremes can harm us in more than a single way.
