Free Essay On The Problem Of Evil
The problem of evil is sometimes rooted in the cultural believes of the people. Most religious sects have drawn a comparison between evil and suffering. Suffering has been considered one of the ways through which people rediscover themselves and get rooted in their religious believes. In the case of the Navaho, the people allowed evil in their land by believing in the prophetic utterances of the chanter. The prophetic word made the Navaho believe that they will be subdued by a foreign group. This in turn gave the white settlers an easy time to subdue them. They were prepared for what may be considered evil in the eyes of many and even liaised with the evil doers top ensure they learn more about their ways and their people. It is unfortunate that even after being accorded such welcome; the white settlers did not treat the Navaho’s with kindness.
This in relation to the reading implies that there is no good you can do to your adversary to make them treat you kindly. This is simply because the intent of the adversary is to cause havoc and harm. However, the form in which evil takes makes people to prepare by living pious lives with the hope that such evil will not overtake them. Cooperating with an evil act does not change it into being good and the only way to counter attack it is to resist the evil. Just like the Navaho’s, most people find themselves to be victims when they did all they can to evade it. Evil has become part of a day’s society by visiting even those who deserve the good of the land. The only alternative that remains for mankind is to appreciate the life they have by overcoming evil. Not participating in evil acts may not always guarantee its evasion, yet it is always advised to engage in good acts as a form of countering the evil.
