I believe that the reason why the listed popular cultures are ‘popular’ is due to its mass appeal. Wherein it gives everyone a reason to stay tune to the programs. Compared to high culture, popular shows that depict popular culture are reinforced by technology. Many people, for example, rely on their mobile phones and computers to catch live streaming of shows. They can also watch the reply of the shows if ever they are not able to catch them live. There are many ways on how people can watch or get information about the shows. Another reason why the listed programs are popular is its appeal to the youth.
The shows speak and reflect aspects of today’s society making them more relatable compared to high culture. It also provides people validation and chances of showcasing what they can offer. In singing competitions such as American Idol and other similar programs, people are given the chance to realize their dreams. This concept appeals to people because they often see their selves in those people who are joining. Those programs most of the time also provides backstory of the participants making the more emotionally appealing and realistic to people. The last reason would have to me the price of popular culture compared to high culture. High culture is associated to being classy and expensive, making it appreciated by a small bracket of people in society. Popular culture is at times free and available in televisions and other media outlet.
